When I think of Arj Barker I think passionate, expressive, observational, and of course an established International comedian.
I was fortunate to see this great comic craftsmen work his canvas of mixed imagination and reality at one of his recent performances at the Arts Theatre,
Leading his original style “Bits & Pieces” show in with a somewhat holistic approach, Barker warmed us all up with preparatory relaxation techniques readying us for a show of wacky observations, pointed sarcasms and good old fashioned Arj Barker bursts of verbal anger that has made him one of not only Adelaide’s, but Australia’s, adopted sons of comedy.
Throughout, Barker professed his love for our great city, and his pleasure in returning to perform here as a regular attraction.
Arj’s emphasis on the ironies of modern society blended well with his somewhat compassionate agreeances with the way of our modern world, and as we have learnt to expect from Arj, around every corner, he concluded with a hilariously relevant cliché.
Having been a close observer of Arj Barker’s rise to fame in the comedy world, it is no puzzle to see why he is selling out shows wherever he appears, and due to his unique style, which he is always developing, there is no doubt Arj Barker will be a welcome inclusion as one of the headline acts at comedy festivals across the country yet again.
The adopted Aussie son met all expectations and will certainly provide some fulfilling entertainment at the upcoming Melbourne International Comedy Festival being held from 1st-26th April, 2009.
