Artist Info: Grammy nominee, Blues Award winner and author Mark Hummel began playing harmonica in 1970 and has gone on to become one of the premier blues players of his generation. With more than 30 recordings released, including the Grammy-nominated single “Remembering Little Walter,” has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound – a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack, combined with a strong sense of swing. Mark started the Blues Survivors in 1977 with Mississippi Johnny Waters and by 1984 began a life of non- stop touring. Hummel has toured or recorded with blues legends Charles Brown, Charlie Musselwhite, Lowell Fulson, Billy Boy Arnold, Carey Bell, Lazy Lester, Brownie McGhee, Eddie Taylor, Luther Tucker and Jimmy Rogers, among others.
Born in 1954, Anson Funderburgh hails from Plano, Texas, where the youngster first picked up guitar. In high school, he got bit by the blues bug through Jimmy Reed and Lightning Hopkins. By 1978, he started Anson & The Rockets with vocalist/harp player Darrell Nulisch, and the group was signed by Black Top Records. In 1986, Nulisch was replaced by Blind Sam Myers who stayed until his death in 2006. After Myer’s death, Funderburgh took a seven-year hiatus from performing to devote to his new family. In 2011, Funderburgh resumed performing with both The Rockets and the Eric Lindell Band. He’s performed alongside many musical greats, including Delbert McClinton, Boz Scaggs, Snooks Eaglin, Grady Gaines, Earl King and Jimmy Buffett. Funderburgh was also the inspiration for the character Beavis from “Beavis & Butthead,” as former bassist and creator of the characters, Mike Judge, performed alongside Funderburgh for three years.
