Dining in the wilds of Scotland with the Mad March Hare is more than just eating outside, it’s innovative and contemporary dining at its best. And in 2019 it’s also about protecting acres of magical rain forest via The World Land Trust.
Food has always been a mainstay in Amanda’s Farnese-Heath’s life. Brought up in an Italian household, everything happened around the kitchen table. Amanda organises magical foodie events reminiscent of her childhood days and inspired by big outdoor spaces in Scotland and around the globe, coupled with the desire to share these unique experiences, cooking up rustic feasts outdoors for family and friends – Dining In the Wilds of Scotland was born.
The first wild dining event launched in October 2017, with a seven-course meal served over four hours in a chilly, yet beautiful, autumnal forest.
Each menu is planned around the seasons, location and the tastiest ingredients Amanda can find. The food is not fussy, it’s simple, and mainly cooked over fire to enhance flavour, also served slowly throughout the evening so guests can enjoy each course and savour the flavours and the surroundings.
It really is magical – long tables beautifully decorated in stunning locations. Always looking for new ways to raise the bar creatively and ethically, this year the Mad March Hare have committed to raising money for The World Land Trust by protecting as many acres of magical rain forest as they possibly can. So how fitting that their last woodland long table event of the year will be nestled amongst magical East Lothian trees, thousands of years old.
The evening begins with a glass of the most amazing natural fizz and a little chat about wild wine and the benefits. There will also be a talk by foraging guru Monica Wilde, where wild diners will learn the art of foraging mushrooms in Scotland.
Cooked on the fire and served slowly throughout the evening, the menu will include mouth-watering dishes such as meze, huge pots of vegan and vegetarian curries and stews and delicious home-made bread. The grand finale will revolve around vegan and unpasteurised dairy cheeses and gorgeous deserts. All washed down with natural wine and fizz.
And to top it all off, the ticket price will include half an acre of rainforest. Collectively, all guests attending will make a difference with £50 from each ticket sold going to the World Land Trust. So the longer the table, the more acres protected.
