Cruise management firm Oceanic Group plans to launch its own themed cruise ship.
Along with media giant Turner it will offer family friendly cruises in Asia aboard a themed cruise ship based on the Cartoon Network characters.
The 2,000-passenger Cartoon Network Wave will sail from Singapore on three- five- and seven-day cruises.
It is also eyeing itineraries to Thailand, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia and Japan.
Oceanic Group chief executive Daniel Chui told the Business Times the project will cost an initial $100 million.
“A homegrown cruise project, Cartoon Network Wave heralds the start of a new vacation experience for cruise-goers in Asia where cruise travel meets personalised journeys through experiential story-telling,” Chui said.
Much of the ship’s programming and entertainment will be based around CN characters including The Powerpuff Girls and Adventure Time.
“Turner is always looking at new ways to bring our characters to life – and Cartoon Network Wave will be their home on the high seas. The ship has remarkable potential to offer our existing fans a truly unique immersive experience, as well as create new ones,” said Ricky Ow, president of Turner Asia Pacific
