Following on from its highly-successful first competition, the annual Wilderness Safaris Moments Photographic Competition is now open for entries. Guests, staff and partners who have travelled with the company are encouraged to share a story and a photograph from any time over the past 35 years that encapsulates how they have been part of the Wilderness Safaris journey. Entries close on 30 September, with the winners announced November 2018.
The main aim of the Wilderness Moments Photographic Competition is to showcase and share life-changing journeys over the past 35 years, by visually highlighting how everyone – from staff to guest – has been part of a community that helps conserve Africa’s wilderness areas and wildlife through sustainable ecotourism. The three categories of the competition focus on Wilderness Safaris’ 4Cs sustainability ethos (Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation) – namely Best Wildlife Photo, Best Landscape Photo and the Travel with Purpose category, which encompasses both story and photo.
“This year, the competition coincides with our birthday, as we celebrate 35 years of travelling with a purpose. Even when we started out in Botswana in 1983 with just one old Land Rover, there has always been one prevailing purpose of our ecotourism activities: conserving and restoring Africa’s wilderness and wildlife. The Travel with Purpose category will, therefore, allow anyone who has travelled with us in the past a chance to enter by sending us some of their memorable images and stories representing their purposeful travel experience with Wilderness Safaris”, said Carel Loubser, Wilderness Safaris Digital Manager.
The judging panel comprises photography experts, guest judge Michael Poliza, Nick Leuenberger, Olympus Ambassador and Wilderness Conservation Manager, Will Goodlet, Wilderness Safaris colleague and photographer, and Michael Guthmann, Olympus photographer and digital photography expert.
Guests and staff will be judged and awarded prizes separately, with the overall guest prize from the two categories comprising an eight-night life-changing journey with Wilderness Safaris for two people sharing at their choice of a Classic or Adventure camp in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe. Wilderness Air charters into and out of camp are included, but regional or international flights are not. The prize also includes photographic equipment sponsored by Olympus.
The overall prize winner of the Travel with Purpose category will win two places on one of Wilderness Safaris’ unique Travel with Purpose itineraries – a limited edition of adventurous, fun and educational safaris that place guests at the coalface of conservation and community in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe.
