NEVADA BALLET THEATRE ANNOUNCES THE 36TH ANNUAL BLACK & WHITE BALL; NAMES GLOBAL SUPERSTAR SHANIA TWAIN AS ITS 2020 WOMAN OF THE YEAR
RENOWNED GALA RETURNS TO CAESARS PALACE ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 2020
LAS VEGAS, NV Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) announced today that country pop icon Shania Twain will serve as the Company’s 2020 ‘Woman of the Year,’ an honor that will be celebrated among hundreds of local arts supporters, community leaders and dignitaries at NBT’s Black & White Ball, on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Caesars Palace. This distinction follows shortly after the December 6, 2019 opening of Twain’s highly-anticipated residency, Shania Twain “Let’s Go!” The Las Vegas Residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
As one of Las Vegas’ preeminent society and fashion events, the annual Black & White Ball supports the city’s largest professional Ballet Company, Nevada Ballet Theatre, its affiliated school, the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, and its successful education and outreach programs–including the acclaimedFuture Dance–that impact over 20,000 students a year, largely from underserved communities.
Canadian singer songwriter Shania Twain is the top-selling female country artist of all time and among the best-selling music artists of all time. With over 100 million records sold, her three decade career has produced a roster of unforgettable hits including “You’re Still The One,” “From This Moment On,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!,” and “Come On Over,” among others. She is the recipient of five GRAMMY Awards and a 2016 Billboard Women in Music Icon Award, earning her the respected title “Queen of Country Pop.”
In 2010, Twain established “Shania Kids Can” (SKC), a non-profit organization that provides services for elementary school children in North America who are experiencing personal suffering, economic hardship and food insecurity. Since 2013, SKC has operated at both elementary and middle school levels in Las Vegas and this school year, the program will be offered at Doris French Elementary School. “By creating a positive cycle for students and providing extra support, we’re giving them a better chance at personal success in the future,” says Shania.
“Shania Twain is a human being of great strength, courage and resilience,” said NBT Co-Founder and Co-Chair Nancy Houssels. “Her unending talent has raised entertainment to new heights and her devotion to children who are suffering is beyond admirable. She is not just a “Woman of the Year,” she is a “Woman of the Century.”
Twain joins an impressive list of female icons who have been feted over the past 36 years by NBT for their artistic achievements, philanthropic contributions and dedication to Las Vegas including Debbie Reynolds, Celine Dion, Marie Osmond, Bette Midler, Mitzi Gaynor, Florence Henderson, Debbie Allen, Olivia Newton-John, Vanessa Williams, Giada De Laurentiis, and most recently, Rita Moreno.
“I would like to thank NBT for having an award that acknowledges women’s achievements,” said Twain. “Ballet is such a formidable discipline and I am honored to be recognized as a patron of this art. Let’s Go Girls!”###
