The third and final episode of BBC One’s latest Galápagos documentary will be aired on Thursday 13th April at 9pm. In this episode Galapagos: Future Frontiers presenter Liz Bonnin and a team of scientific experts journey south to visit the islands of Isabela, a large youthful island with five active volcanoes, and Santa Cruz, the most populated of the islands and home to the giant tortoise.
Specialist tour operator Journey Latin America can arrange land-based stays on both Isabela, at the same lodge where Liz Bonnin stayed, and on Santa Cruz, which allow for in-depth explorations of the islands. Their 10-day Signature Galapagos: Island Hopping holiday launched in January 2017 and follows in the footsteps of Liz Bonnin by spending 3 nights at the newly opened Scalesia Lodge on Isabela Island and 3 nights at the award-winning Finch Bay hotel located on Santa Cruz Island. The holiday costs £4,450 per person and includes 2 nights in Quito, breakfast in Quito, full board in the Galápagos, return flights from mainland Ecuador to the Galápagos and daily excursions. International flights are extra.
- Walking along the rim of the world’s second largest caldera (its diameter is a staggering 10km).
- Snorkelling in the aquamarine waters of La Calera or Loberia Chica among marine turtles, rays, reef fish, starfish and octopus.
- Roaming with giant tortoises in the highlands of Santa Cruz.
