Sweet potato dauphinois with crispy pulled aubergine is a hearty and satisfying take on the French classic, offering creamy layers of sweet and white potatoes service with spicy pulled aubergine. Traditional scents and flavours are intermingled in the truffle polenta with wild mushrooms, where oyster, shimeji and shitake mushrooms are stewed in a cream Dijon mustard sauce with toasted truffle polenta and root vegetables.
For the Autumn Menu Chef has introduced exciting new dishes made from the best ingredients of the season. One of Head Chef Clarisse Flon’s signature dishes is ‘Alpine Ravioles with fresh slaw’, sundried tomatoes and a smoky glaze. Ravioles are a speciality from the French alps, ‘Hautes Alpes’, where she grew up. Usually made with Tome, a hard cheese from cow’s milk, Clarisse has developed a vegan version with the great vegan cheese provided by our amazing supplier IAMNUTOK.
Chef Clarisse Flon is noted for her French Vegan Patisserie creations and her latest selection is an outstanding array of light and delicious options which are available all day. Quince and apple tatin with redcurrants embraces quintessential fresh autumn fruits and nuts, served with chestnut cream and apple crisps. Roasted figs with caramelised almonds and honey rice pudding plays on the sensational subtle flavours of fig intermingled with the velvet smoothness of the vanilla rice pudding, with white chocolate almond shards and crispy tuile to finish.
The Poire Belle-Helene with Pecan Praline is a delicious and indulgent option, enjoy every bite of the vanilla poached pear in a biscuit dome served with pecan praline, hazelnut biscuit and caramelised pecans, gently melted with a hot chocolate sauce. This particular dessert is a favourite of Chef Clarisse, as she explained, “Poire Belle Helene is a classic French dessert usually made with a vanilla poached pear served with hot chocolate ganache. Our take on it is slightly different, the pear is presented in a chocolate dome that will melt when you pour the Hazelnut and chocolate ganache on your plate, we have also added our favourite winter flavours in the form of a Pecan Praline crème pâtisserie, some hazelnut cakes and a deep dark chocolate ice cream to create a “chaud-froid”, contrast between hot and cold.“
General Manager James Jude commented on the new offering: “This exciting new Autumn/Winter menu stimulates the senses with autumnal flavours. Café Forty-One is breaking the traditional stereotypes associated with plant-based foods and is dedicated to supporting the creativity and passion of the team who have created this delicious menu for both vegans and non-vegans to enjoy.”
Café Forty-One (, 020 7313 8484) will offer the Autumn/Winter Menu from £5 per dish and it will run until End of February 2019.
