One improved feature from the Apple iOS 11 update is gaining a lot of attention from travelers.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the improved Maps app allows users to locate terminals, gate numbers, security checkpoints, baggage claim areas, stores, restrooms, restaurants and other key locations inside airports across the United States.
The new map feature was beta tested earlier this year at San Jose International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport, but the service is now available at other facilities including Oakland International, Miami International, Minneapolis-St. Paul International, Baltimore–Washington International, Portland International, Las Vegas’ McCarran International and Chicago’s O’Hare International and Midway International.
Developers have also announced plans to add the airport mapping to other popular facilities, including New York City’s John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia.
While the interior views of the airports soon to be released have been announced, a roll-out date has not been revealed. It’s also worth noting that Maps on macOS does not currently feature the airport interiors service.
For Google Maps users, airport terminals are also viewable, but only the locations of stores and restaurants are listed. One upside to Google Maps is that it offers a Street View from inside the terminals, as opposed to just the GPS view on iOS 11.
